Fort Lauderdale Redefines Luxury at The St. Regis Resort
Fort Lauderdale has unveiled the interior design of The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort, crafting a narrative that seamlessly intertwines the destination’s rich history, heritage, and coastal allure through the theme of movement. Developed by Unicorp, this landmark project spans 18 acres of pristine white-sand beachfront, marking the Sarasota barrier island’s most significant development in 50 years.
The project encompassed a diverse array of spaces designed by HBA Miami, including the resort’s public areas, 168 guest rooms with 36 suites, the iconic St. Regis Bar, Caroline’s Coffee Bar, the Oshen Rooftop Lounge, The St. Regis Spa, a Children’s Club, and over 34,000 square feet of meeting and event spaces. Complementing HBA’s vision, 10SB served as the project architect, while Dutch East Design curated the interiors of signature dining venues like CW Prime, Riva, Aura, and Monkey Bar.
A Dance of Design and Heritage
HBA Miami’s design narrative draws from Sarasota’s vibrant cultural history and natural surroundings, with movement as a unifying motif. Inspired by the fluid grace of ballet, the rhythm of nature, and the energy of the performing arts, the interiors feature curvilinear forms, rhythmic patterns, and a serene palette of light stone, warm woods, and coastal blues. Decorative lighting throughout evokes the dynamism of the circus, a nod to Sarasota’s renowned heritage as Florida’s Cultural Coast.
“Inspired by theatre, the arts, and the local seascape, our design celebrates Sarasota’s performing arts heritage and the essence of the region,” said HBA Miami Associate Man Him Chan. “We envisioned the resort as a stage, where every element contributes to an immersive guest experience.”
Arrival and Transformation
The guest journey begins with an elevated sense of arrival in the entry gallery. A custom chandelier with sweeping modern forms and shimmering metallic accents highlights the lofty ceiling heights. Clean lines, natural materials, and dynamic lighting create a multi-sensory introduction to the resort’s layered design, while an illuminated ceiling pattern reminiscent of a coral reef draws attention outward to stunning ocean views.
The St. Regis Bar: A Centerpiece of Glamour
Serving as the heart of the lobby, The St. Regis Bar is a glamorous social hub. A sculptural latticed installation reminiscent of a circus cage ascends to the ceiling, adding architectural drama. At the center, a glowing mural inspired by Florida sunsets becomes a focal point, while intricate tilework on the bar front mimics the feathers of a bird, providing tactile contrast to the polished stone surfaces. Surrounding seating areas offer varied configurations, inviting both lively gatherings and intimate moments.
Elegant Functionality in Meetings and Events
Movement and elegance continue in the meeting and event spaces, where rope-like chandeliers in the pre-function area guide guests toward the ballroom. The Astor Ballroom, with its oval shape and vintage circus inspiration, exudes grandeur while maintaining a sense of intimacy.
A Spa Designed for Serenity
At The St. Regis Spa, soothing fluidity and organic forms create an atmosphere of tranquility. Natural stone and warm wood dominate the palette, while a celestial-inspired ceiling installation casts soft, dappled light. Polished lava stone columns with metallic finishes add a touch of opulence, echoing the spa’s harmonious blend of luxury and nature.
Guest Rooms: Private Coastal Retreats
In the guest rooms, design elements draw inspiration from the ocean and shoreline. Carpets mimic gentle currents, while soft drapery and understated lighting create an inviting ambiance. Natural wood finishes, polished stone surfaces, and black metal accents frame the interiors, allowing ocean views to take center stage. Thoughtful touches, like crystal pendant lighting and rugs resembling bird footprints, add refined detail to these serene sanctuaries.
A Vision Brought to Life
The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort is more than a luxury destination—it’s a celebration of Sarasota’s artistry, culture, and natural beauty. Through HBA Miami’s innovative design, guests are invited to immerse themselves in an experience that is as dynamic and captivating as the island itself.
